Adam’s Pick of the Week

makers-mark-old-fashionedAlthough not the first cocktail ever created, the Old fashioned is an American staple that cocktail purists still revere today. Some historical records trace this drink back to the Pendennis, a gentlemen’s club in Louisville Kentucky. The recipe is said to have been invented by a bartender at that club, and popularized by a club member and bourbon distiller, Colonel James E. Pepper, who later brought it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. Staying true to the original definition of what a “cocktail” is, the old fashioned is simply a mix of Bourbon,  sugar (or simple syrup), bitters and an orange zest served over ice. Tell your server you saw this post and get an old fashioned cocktail on special for $6.

Adam’s Pick of the Week

2003_syrahWith winter weather now upon us, it is definitely time for what I like to call “comfort wines.”  This is the perfectly season to embrace robust, earthy wines with structure and complexity. That is why we have highlighted Saxon Brown’s 2005 Flora Ranch Syrah.  The Flora Ranch Vineyard is a southeastern facing valley with surrounding hills that protect it from early and mid day sun.  The result is a cooler and longer growing season that allows wine maker Jeff Gaffner to produce exceptionally elegant Syrah.  Classic in style, this wine is loaded notes of rich leather, fresh tobacco leaf, and espresso bean… everything you would expect from a red Rhone varietal. Print this page and receive 20% of a bottle of Saxon Brown’s Syrah.

meatboardCypress Grove’s Humbolt Fog is an elegant, soft, surface ripened cheese. The texture is creamy and luscious with a subtle tangy flavor. Each handcrafted wheel features a ribbon of edible vegetable ash along its center and a coating of ash under its exterior to give it a distinctive, cake-like appearance. Champalou Vouvray 07’ Chenin Blanc is from the Vouvray region of the Loire Valley in central France. Arguably the most versatile grape varietal, Chenin Blanc gained notoriety in the California single varietal market in the early 70’s. In the winery, it can manifest into a number of different styles, from bone dry to sweet dessert wines. The amazing thing that I love most about this wine is universal appeal. Its off-dry finish makes it an option for both the new and old world wine drinker. This wine is packed with lush honey suckle, orange blossom, as well as a nice flinty mineral finish that pairs nicely with robust cheeses.

wheat-pasting by nico …

pasteupsyrahmost of the entrace into Vin De Syrah is done in what’s called “wheatpaste”. its a form of graffitti that has been taken on an artist look at Vin De Syrah. this is a raw urban form of art that is usually not always wanted by landlords, but in this case its super cool & better yet commisioned by Vin De Syrah – thanks nico …

Wheatpaste (also known as potato paste, flour paste, rice paste, Marxist glue, or simply paste) is a liquid adhesive made from vegetable starch and water. It is also made for the purpose of adhering paper posters to walls and other surfaces (often in graffiti). Keep an eye out, nico comes in once a month to redo different sections, and you can watch it live.
